THE KNOT IN THE HEART
THEATRICAL PRODUCTION
“THE KNOT OF THE HEART”, by David Eldridge, won the Off West End Award for Best New Play in 2011 in London. Eldridge is one of the few contemporary playwrights who, with sharp precision and rigorous structure, carves deep emotions through his characters.
“The Knot of the Heart” (original title) premiered in March 2011 at the Almeida Theatre, a landmark of London’s cultural scene, achieving great critical and public success and moving audiences deeply.
The story unfolds through the family relationship between the mother, Barbara (Guida Vianna), and her daughters Nina (Monique Franco) and Angela (Camila Nhary), in an upscale London neighborhood. Nina, the youngest, at the beginning of her career as the host of a children's TV show, is caught using drugs in her dressing room. From that moment on, her life begins to fall apart, and her addiction profoundly affects the lives of all the women in that family.
David Eldridge is a playwright known for his extraordinary sensitivity in portraying deep human emotions on stage. In “The Knot of the Heart”, themes such as substance dependence and family relationships are explored, allowing the audience to follow these issues with delicacy as the plot unfolds.
Unprecedented on Brazilian stages, the production premiered in 2013 during the inauguration of Teatro Eva Herz, in Rio de Janeiro.
